The Tempest Response

1. Who was your favourite character? Explain why?
In the play, Ferdinand was my favourite character because he was a respectful, kind and caring man.

2. What message do you think Shakespere wanted to communicate?
I think that Shakespere was trying to communicate the message of kindness as it was prevalent may times throughout the play.

3. Would you reccomend this play to a friend? Why or why not?
Yes, I would reccomend this play to a friend. I would do this because I personally found it to be a very beautiful and interesting story, partly because of the way it was written (although it was very challenging to understand sometimes) and also because the story line was funny. It also included a variety of themes such as romance, action, science fiction and comedy so would encompass a greater amount of people based on interest.

4. Embed the film trailer into your post.

Reflection.

1) Identify the strengths of your group & include examples
The main strength in my group would be that each of my group members researched and understood their blockbuster film aspect extremely thoroughly. This aided in making the script writing an easy and painless process that we managed to complete in 2-3 lessons.
Amy, Maja, Cristyn & I are good friends. This proved to be a huge strength, as being close with one another, we were able to truthfully answer each others questions and we weren’t hesitant to voice our opinions on matters regarding certain aspects of the film production that were being discussed such as costume and location. Being friends was a huge benefit and allowed us to be comfortable working with one another and also have a whole lot of fun in the process.

Another strength my group utilised throughout this project was the ability to work efficiently and effectively around our obstacles. An example of this would be when we were around half way through filming and the room we were using was no longer available to us. Aware that the exact same background and overall look could not be replicated perfectly, we relocated to another room that looked as similar as we could find. We decided we would pass off the mishap in the film as a renovation of our old studio and we carried on as per plan from that point on.

2) Identify and explain some of the challenges your group has encountered + how did you overcome these?
Coming to definite agreements on certain aspects of the film and film production proved to be a challenge. Alike in any group situation, each group member has a different idea that they want to contribute. The challenge in our group was not that each group member was self centred and only liked their own aspect, but that we thought that each other’s ideas were really good. We overcame this obstacle by narrowing down our options based on the availability and attain- ability of equipment/props and although it took a considerable amount of time in some instances, these agreements did get finalised.

Deciding the exact script was a definite challenge for my group members and I. When we were writing the initial script and discussing the amount of information we wanted it to include from each of our individual research documents on the four main aspects, we agreed that the film should include as much information as possible. However, we greatly underestimated how long it would take to speak our information and the process of filming it all ended up being a lot more time consuming than we had previously thought. This unfortunately has meant that our editing out of information to make the film shorter has been reasonably time consuming. And to make matter even more undesirable, the iPad we were using began to have technical difficulties because of the video length. We overcame this challenge by notifying our teacher about the situation we were facing and she kindly gave us more time to complete our project.

Another challenge our group faced was the unavailability of the room we were using to film, half way though our filming. Had we known this was going to occur, we would have chosen an alternate place to film where our backdrop would remain constant. Having to change set was not something we had considered before our filming, so when the challenge arose we spent 5-10 minutes discussing the matter and came to the conclusion that we would pass off the mishap in the movie as renovation of our old studio and we carried on as per plan from that point on.

3) Things I have learnt from this project

From this project, I have gained skills in working constructively and efficiently in a group situation. We were given a task and we were given dead lines. We allocated smaller jobs to one another by pulling apart the overall aim and made a great start. I know my team members well and was not afraid to ask them for assistance/guidance when I required it and they did the same to me when they needed it. We helped each other throughout the entire project and we all oversaw aspects of the film before they were finalised to ensure we all agreed upon them.

I have also personally learnt that filming is something that I really enjoy. I enjoyed learning about the different camera angles and shots and found it really satisfying then being able to go out and film something similar. I was able to use my creative side, deciding which camera angles and shots would effectively portray the message that was being projected.

As with any project, I have learnt more self management skills. This was quite a large project over quite a few weeks and I had to work out what needed to be done by when to ensure that we met the dead line. Unfortunately, we did not cater for technical difficulties and the iMovie applications on the iPad we were using did not cooperate fully. This hiccup did give us a set back as we were unable to finish tasks at the time we planned. However we managed (with help from a technical specialist) to fix the problem and we worked really hard to complete it from there forward. In the future I will now make sure to get things done that little bit earlier to ensure that malfunctions like these can be solved sooner than later.

I have also learnt that a movie is not as shallow as it may seem and there are countless meanings behind every aspect.

4) Would you recommend this project?

Yes, I would recommend this project. It combined group work, creativity, researching, understanding blockbuster film ingredients and a whole lot of fun in the process.

‘Hot Tips With Hot Chicks’ Film review/Interview Concept.

Title: Hot Tips With Hot Chicks Project

Brief: Identifying the key ingredients of a blockbuster film (theme, characterisation, setting and symbolism), why they are important and what effect they have on the audience, using the movie Life of Pi as an example. We will discuss these four main aspects/ingredients in depth. We will present this in a casual chat show style film, aimed for giving advice to teenagers who see themselves involved in the film production industry in the future. Two of our group members will pose as professional film reviewers and the other two are going to be the talk show hosts. The talk show hosts will ask questions and make statements that cause discussion about the key aspects of a blockbuster film and their ramifications.

Target audience: The target audience which our talk show/film review will aim towards appealing to is teens who are interested in movies, enjoy watching chat shows and/or seek advice about the film industry. We will captivate our target audiences attention through a variety of different strategies, matching our approach to the personal culture of the teens in our area. Using slang, humour and trending music throughout our show will allow teenagers to relate. Teenagers are attracted to things that inform and inspire them. They are interested in their own world and their abilities to shape their future. By talking in a way that is personal and inspirational, discussing a topic that is popular/interesting and giving advice at the same time, we hope to efficively capture the attention of teens.

Setting: Our talk show/film review will be filmed in the blue recording room which imitates a typical talk show studio. We have chosen this setting because it is brightly lit, warm, with colourful scenery and we have the ability to play music there as it is relatively sound proof. This setting will (hopefully) add to our films appeal to teens as it is similar to that of popular talk show studios on television.

Props and costumes: A large piece of cardboard imitating a boats front This prop will be positioned in front of the cast present on stage, in a way that gives the audience the impression and feel that the presenters are sitting in a boat. Freda Brest (Film show presenter) (Cristyn) and Ivana Tinkle (Film show presenter) (Maja) to wear casual but presentable style clothing (what you’d wear to the mall or out to lunch) which again will give a more relaxed feel but with a hint of classiness. Anita Tinkle (film reviewer/guest) (Alex) is classy, intelligent woman and dresses to show this. She will be wearing a black pencil skirt and loose blouse, with her hair pulled back in a bun. Eileen Dover (film reviewer/guest) (Amy) is smart and colourful geek. She will be wearing a pair of high waisted shorts, a multi-coloured printed t-shirt, a pair of glasses, suspenders, with her hair in pigtails. Each persons costume reflects a different personality type and by including four different personality types will ensure that many different teens can all relate to our film in this way.

Lighting, sound effects and music: The lighting techniques that will be used during the filming of this show will be a combination of natural and artificial lighting. Though, predominantly artificial lighting to avoid a large space for change in brightness and shadows. The sound effects used will be playful, humorous and will make sense with our actions, aside from a few which may be used to entertain the audience by adding a hint of randomness. The music that will be used will be modern and upbeat to suit the targeted audiences preferences. It will be playful, fun and fit well with the casts actions.
